problem: ibook instock but ipod mini not in stock! (opinion plz)

I was planning to get ibook 12" with an ipod mini ("free" after mail in rebates)

Tried to buy both at my university campus store but ibook 12" was out of stock so i called every few days to check if new shipments arrive!

now it's available for sale but they don't have ipod mini instock!

the employee on the phone told me i have 2 options:

1) pay for both, pick up ipod mini later when they are in stock but will not gurantee that ipod mini will be available before sept 26th (deadline of rebate). They will refund my money if i don't want it after sept 26th. but i will lose all chances of getting the rebate cuz both items have to be on receipt.

OR

2) pay for upgraded version of ipod that are instock right now (either 6gig mini or 20 gig with color display) and just get rebate.

is there a chance that the mini will arrive before sept26th? I've also heard rumors that mini's harddrive will be replaced by flash memory early next year?

so... i'm pretty much stuck....

maybe i should buy next week and ask if they have it in stock then? :| I unno what to do! anxious to get it after 2 weeks of waiting!

if i get the ipod mini, i'm going to sell it to cut cost for ibook. but if i get the ipod 20gig (color screen), i may keep it for the ability to record lectures. But i dont see a practical side to it other than being able to record lectures and listen to music.... 20 gig is a lot and i doubt my music collection will be that much....

helppp....

Can't you order the items online?

As for recording lectures, couldn't you use the iBooks built in mic and record them that way?

I could order online but i'm heading out of town for a week after sept 9th... so if i order now, no one will pick it up....

unless i order during my vacation... it'll be very close to debate deadline date.

That would always work, if you ordered it during your vacation. As long as its before the deadline, than you should be alright.

I would just order online if your local reseller doesn't have stock.

now i think i might get the 6gig versino of mini, a friend told me they're in stock BUT don't know which colors are there

if they do,i'll just go get it tommorow... i can't wait to get it!
paying $60 more is better than the chance of being without rebates at all.

4gb vs. 6gb....

People say 6gb is good cuz it's the same size as the 4gb.... and 2 gb is worth it the $30/gb.
but i don't think so... for 2 gb...

i guess it's up to your music collection size....

what do u guys think?

I would say 2gb is worth 30$-go for the 6gig. The sooner you get your mac, the better.

Are you anywhere near Toronto? The Apple retail store in Yorkdale might be another option.
