New iPad Pro 11 inch, colour me disappointed

The screen on my iPad Pro was gritty and the Apple Pencil didnít glide smoothly so thinking I had damaged it, I did the sensible (😈😈&#128520 thing and bought a new one and a new Apple Pencil.

Iím disappointed.

A) the only way to charge the pencil is to attach it to the iPad magnetically. The old pencil charged via a lightning connector so I could plug it in, grab a dumb stylus and keep going. I hold the iPad in my hand while using it and I can see myself bumping the pencil off there and losing it in a couch cushion.

B) I canít find a way to ďswipe to homeĒ using the Apple Pencil so I awkwardly hold the pencil while swiping with my finger. Swipe to home works with a dumb stylus. Makes no sense to me.

C) the screen seems gritty and the pencil doesnít glide. Itís as bad as the old one.

D) I donít like the camera bump. It seems like they went so far and then said ďthatís good enoughĒ.

And, the sales dude cleaned the screen with a cloth and some Muc-Off so I bought some and used it on the old iPad. It seems to have smoothed out the gritty feel.

Interesting...

What a dumb method for charging the pencil. Was that another "Great Design Achievement" of Sir Jonathan Ive???

I presume your swipe to home works with your old unit???
It seems one method migh work using AssistiveTouch:

It sounds like Muc-Off is some pretty good stuff.

I prefer the "new" way of charging the pencil.

If I'm out and I need a charge, I have to plug it in to the end of the ipad.

Then find a place to put it where it won't get accidentally knocked. It sticks out quite far.

The new solution is more elegant and user friendly for those who use it on the go.

Plus, it is always charged.

I didnít think of it that way, good point. I always used a cord to charge mine.

As I type this, Iím noticing the new look keyboard and like it. Over all now that Iíve had a couple of days with it, and Patrick clued me in to the assistive touch, Iím liking it a lot.

Wireless charging the Pencil with the iPad seems like a great idea to me. Sticking out of the USB-C port just seems like a recipe for disaster.

I have a new iPad Pro 11" coming tomorrow, looking forward to new design and much improved screen. I have been an iPad mini user since they first came out, loved the design (at the time) and size. I had a look at the iPad Pro at the Apple store last weekend and really liked the size and how thinned down the bezel is. Doubt I will get an Apple Pencil, hand writing notes and drawing is just not for me and the price is just way to high to even warrant buying it to play around with.

Iíve had the 10 1/5 inch iPad Pro and Apple Pencil for two years and ďneverĒ charged the pencil using the lightning port. I always used a cord.

As predicted, I did lose the new pencil behind the side table

Did not think of charing with a cord, that is exactly how I would end up doing it as well, hate draining one battery to charge another battery, though I am guessing Pencil does not need a lot of juice.

I'm rather surprised that they seem to have relocated or buried the option so much.

Anyway, I'm glad to hear the suggested fix worked for you.

PS: Maybe the subject title could be changed to something a bit more positive or at least add "Solved" if things are better than first reported.

having used many, too many stylus over the years, an Apple pencil is a pleasure to use.

Charging is fast and doesn't drain the ipad very much. Sticking out the bottom is a pain but I charge it in my office in a safe place as a work around.

The charge lasts a long time too.

It is amazing, with all the apps, how useful the pencil becomes. Even quick drawings to help explain an idea are easier with the AP.
