iOS weather app the worst?

Today is a warm +10 day in SW Ontario and both my iPhone and Apple watch (latest iOS Update and watch updates) show a chilly -17 C. Not even close. Of course in the weather widget on my iMac in High Sierra it shows the correct temperature. Why does Apple not use the same service across the board and what are they using that is that far off???

I've been using Carrot Weather for ages, and it's pretty accurate. It uses dark sky, or weather underground, so you could always compare to those.

Using the default weather app that comes with iOS. It is indeed set to the proper location, I checked that immediatly to make sure. It is using my location. I also added my city as well and that gives a different temperature that is still way off from the location based temperature in Apples own weather app.

With location it says Kitchener Ontario is -21. With me selecting the city Kitchener Ontario it says -12. The weather network, and the temperature reading from my car both say +2. The weather widget, again from Apple on my iMac says +1.

I cannot wrap my head around where this bad info is coming from. I just restarted my phone and the temperature dropped to -29C! Again this is using my location to get the weather. I clicked on the weather icon in the bottom left which brings me to weather.com. There the weather is listed at -6.

I don't understand why Apple would use one weather service for their Mac OS and a different for their iOS weather app.

I have always used The WeatherNetwork and/or Accuweather. (both have Apple Watch Complications).
I never found the Apple one very reliable.

I have never found the Apple one super reliable, but it has never been this far out of whack. I appears that it is getting its info from the weather network as that is what is linked in the app itself.

I questioned if maybe it was pulling the weather from a different Kitchener. I know there is one in BC. I checked the weather there and it is only -11, a far cry from the now -30 C my weather app is showing. There is a Kitchener in Australia but that is a nice +22 C.

I did like the simplicity of the Apple app, the way it is laid out. Guess I will have to scrap it and go with something else.

Probably not a factor, but could windchill be throwing things off? As in, could the apple weather app be showing the 'feels like' temperature rather than the actual temperature, where everything else is not?

No, there is little wind and the weather was above freezing, no way it is going down to -30 C with light wind. Everything is melting here, feels like spring. I think there is something wrong with the weather service they are getting their info from. When I looked at the days outline in the weather app it was going from -25 at noon to -2 at 1pm. That is a serious change in weather in a one hour period. It is all very peculiar.

From a google search, it seems that Apple switched to using "the Weather Channel providing Apple more detailed data for iOS 8 Weather app than Yahoo did::
https://appleinsider.com/articles/14...than-yahoo-did

With more googling, the iOS weather.app still seems to be completely inaccurate and goofy for many areas.

Maybe try a google search for a better one for your area.

I always found AccuWeather and Weather Underground to be the most reliable and accurate, At least using Mac OSX.

I don't use iOS with my iPad 2 very much.

I use the Weather Network app. It is pretty accurate for around here if location is set correctly. It seems to respond well over relatively small location changes.

The default app is crap.

YMMV.... Just my $0.02 Cdn....
