Since updating to iOS 12, I’m seeing data usage spikes I’ve never seen before, specifically when linking my iPad to my iPhone Hotspot. I had to add data halfway through my month and it looks like it will run out before my billing cycle is up. My usage habits have not changed at all. I took it up with Bell Mobility and they told me to speak with Apple about it. I really don’t want to spend $40 plus more a month just for updating to iOS 12. Has anyone else noticed an increase in data usage, especially when using Hotspot?
Been watching usage now (in Cellular Data Settings) toward the end of my billing cycle just with my iPhone. The MyBell app used up 8mb of data just to check my data usage with Bell. That seems like an awful lot for not loading any images! Actually, Bell (and any provider) should not take that kind of usage into account). I know I’m onto something here but it almost seems useless to take it up with Apple or Bell. All they’d do is take me through the settings I’ve already set. Hasn’t any other iOS 12 users noticed an increase in usage? My new iPhone XS should be arriving today. I do hope my usage might go back to “normal.”
Just before leaving for the States last week, I added on 3 Gigs of data.
Iím shocked at how little data Iíve used on Stateside. I just called Bell Mobility to credit that $40 charge as I still have over 2 Gigs left from my 3 Gig plan. I asked her why such data usage difference and she said they canít reply to any cross border networks.
Iím sure my data usage will spike when I return.
What I do like is the Roam Better addon which allows one to use their data in Canada even when travelling in the States. No switching SIM which is nice. Itís only $7 a day when you use it. Highly recommended if youíre planning on traveling cross border.
