Apple TV Media Server App

Is there an app for Apple TV (free or otherwise) that will connect me to other Macs on my network for steaming various media? I've done a bit of poking but it'd be great to get a recommendation. I don't mind paying if it does a good job!

I've used Plex on my 4th generation Apple TV without any problems. Now, keep in mind that I have a single iMac on my network as a server. Ymmv

Downloaded and looks great but it doesn't seem to stream .avi? Nothing in the support section about it!

I'm using Firecore's Infuse on my ATV4, and I am very pleased with the interface and ease of setup. I recommend it if you have a stash of TV shows and Movies.

Point it to whatever server you are keeping your media on (I keep mine on an Airport disk), and it will take care of the metadata with little or no intervention.

A free version is available, which may meet your needs and gives a good feel for the app. The paid "pro" version is well worth it, in my opinion.

I believe you can set up plex to transcode as necessary. If not on demand, it can do it when it scans the library. But avi will likely be a cumbersome and lossy conversion.

Does the paid version let you make playlists?
