forgot icloud account password and I keep getting sign in prompts on ipad

Just updated my ipad 2 to ios 8 and its forcing me to sign into an icloud account I no longer use or remember the password for (it's an @me.com one).

If I delete this account under cloud what do I lose? Is is possible to delete this account without losing all my information? Will all my photos and apps be gone, what exactly will I lose?

The issue is I don't remember the password to this account and have no idea what to do.

I can't recover my my Apple ID password either.

I've tried doing that for hours entering prompts over and over again and it goes to the account @me.com that I can no longer access which is a vicious cycle. I have a newer icloud account but my ipad keeps defaulting to this old account I no longer use that is the whole problem.

I can't sign in with this old account either as I have no idea of the password. I need to somehow get my ipad to use my current account.

What is the best solution here?

Most likely you have something on your iPad that was purchased using the old account. You would need to check your songs/books/movies/apps in iTunes on the computer by right clicking and selecting more info to see what account purchased each item. You could then remove them from your iPad and it should stop prompting you for the password.

**I am assuming that under iCloud/iMessage/Facetime that you are already signed in with your new account.

I'm coming in a bit late here, but you might want to try calling Apple Customer Support Help desk as an old friend did not long ago. He also had some troubles with his old Apple account and a new iDevice and he couldn't get what he thought was his password working, and got all the iOS hassles stopped. He said they were quite helpful. Maybe they can do the same for you.

I always thought that such info was usually kept in one's Keychain Access.
