I have encountered some of the later SD cards that do sometimes have some extra widows or propriety type software stuff installed and it's sometimes hard if not almost impossible to remove using a Mac, as well as wasting any SD card space that one has paid for.
And your comment on "deleted" files that were't actually deleted is sure valid. |

Both possibilities but they didn't apply in my case.
As to some proprietary files being already installed, if they were they sure wouldn't take up 3/4 of the total space.
In my case the 2 GB card was supposedly full after I saved only about 500 MB on it.
As to files not being really deleted, these were brand new cards out of the box, nothing supposedly was on these cards unless I received a use one that had been resealed.
But what I mentioned earlier maybe sheds some light on this.
Over the years I had accumulated a large number of mp3 files, hundreds of them, about 4 GB worth which were on a folder on the Mac.
So when I got an MP3 player, I moved these to a micro SD card to play on that player.
First card I used was an 8GB TF card but then I had a better use for that large a card and I only needed about 2GB to store the mp3 files I wanted.
So I bought a 2GB TF card for the mp3 files I wanted.
When I tried to copy the first 1 GB worth of mp3 files, I got a message that song 53 couldn't be copied because the card was full.
It's rather annoying that the Mac then doesn't copy any, but that's another story.
So I selected only songs 1 to 52 and copied those..
After those were done I selected another ten songs because the space on the card used was only several 100 MBs and those ten were copied with no problem, except occasionally I would get an error message (I think it was error 33) that a particular song couldn't be copied.
So I just skipped those assuming the original file was corrupt.
Going in smaller chunks worked for a while until I hit a harder limit around 500MB.
So somehow the Mac thought the card was full and later was still able to add motr files.
That happened a few times so did the error 33 message for different songs.
So a few really inconsistent strange things which led me to the conclusion that I had a "fake" card.
After I reformatted the card using the Mac all these problems disappeared totally.
The whole lot of mp3's, 1.99 GB worth was copied in one shot with no problems and the various mp3's that generated that eror 33 message before also copied without a hitch.
So my conclusion now is that the formatting ex-factory was just messed up, and that on both cards from different manufacturers - Kingston and SanDisk.
