unzipping files - where do they go?

Hi all,

I am on Lion and when I click on a zip file that I have in downloads it goes to unzip them then.. nothing happens. How do I know - or be aware of where the unzipped files are on my hard drive?

If you're using the built-in unzipping program, then they should be unzipped to the same directory as the archive.

Often they unzip into a folder within that same folder... I have a colleague who simply can't wrap his head around this, causing us no end of frustration...

I got into the habit of creating a temporary folder on my desktop, move the zipped file in there and then the unzipped file is in there as well and I don't have to search for it.
Then I just move the unzipped file where I want it and throw the folder in the trash.
