I have a macpro 10.7.4, early '09 and 3rd generation apple tv.
With my iphone, I know I can airplay movies to my tv via appletv. -> works like a charm.
Tonight through itunes on my mac, I also airplayed a video to my apple tv -> also worked like a charm.
If I install mountain Lion, will these features disappear? I keep reading that mountain lion doesn't have airplay for all macs. Can someone explain exactly how this will affect what I just did tonight? Or how my system would change?

That was not AirPlay, but rather streaming iTunes content through the AppleTV.
AirPlay:
AirPlay Mirroring is made for an audience. Because with a click, what’s on your Mac is also on your HDTV. It’s easy to set up with Apple TV. Show web pages and videos to friends on the couch, share lessons with a classroom, or present to a conference room. AirPlay audio streams the music, podcasts, and other audio on your Mac to AirPlay-enabled speakers.

Thanks for clearing that up. I assume I will continue to stream for
iTunes to apple tv in mountain lion too?
My apple tv is also hard wires to my router (don't know if that
makes a difference or not.
Do current macs running 10.7.4 or less have AirPlay or is apple ditching it in mountain. Lion
The only real change to Mountain Lion is you can airplay your entire screen, so mirroring your monitor. Whereas the airplay your talking about is streaming the music, videos and photos, but not the whole desktop of your computer. They are all still there, you can stream your music, movies and pictures via airplay in mountain lion. The only thing some models cant do is share the actual desktop screen of their mac.

Thanks wondering. As of right now, I can't do this anyways in 10.7.4 so it's not like im losing functionality....im just not getting the latest and greatest option... that being said, I've never felt the need to mirror my desktop wirelessly

Again, you don't need Mountain Lion if you want to mirror your desktop, and you don't even need a 2011 Mac. I can do it with my 2008 MacBook very simply using AirParrot on my AppleTV2. No mods or jailbreaks needed. I'm surprised by the absence of reaction every time I mention this solution. It can save a person a lot of money. And yes you can certainly use AirParrot in 10.7.4, if at some point you might see a use for wirelessly mirroring your desktop.
