3GS still relevant mid 2012?

Long an Apple user (going back to orig imac, laptops all Mac, ipod) but for some reason have held to my BlackBerry, bout to change that.

Wondering if anyone has thoughts on use of an iPhone 3GS at this stage?

I've played with 4S and love it but given 5 is coming I'm loathe to sign a contract for a 4S
Have opp to buy a 3GS for $160, I've not seen it yet but am told it's in great condition, running iOS 5, no dead pixels. What would bug me about this? Will I find it terribly slow (possibly no compared to my BB), I know cam is lacking at 3mp....anything else I should really think about?

Thx!

My daughter still uses my old 3GS as an iPod Touch all the time. Works fine for what she needs it for, and it did phone calls fine last time I used it (last October).

My sister has no issues with my old iPhone 3GS. It saved her in the sense that she didn't need to sign a new contract with bell to get a new cheap flip phone or pay to get out of her 3 year crappy contract when her old flip phone died.

All she has ever used are flip phones so an old outdated iPhone which is unlocked has been great for her. I started to loath it while I had it before I gave it to my wife, and then my wife started to get frustrated with it so it got passed down the line. The 3GS is still kicking now that my sister has ditched Bell and running month to month with Koodo.

If you don't care about the newest features I'd still consider a 4, but I'd only go with a 3GS if it was just a temp phone and if you plan on upgrading down the line for a 5 or 4S. My 2cents.

I have and will use my 3GS for a while. Very slow to surf but very capable phone and device still IMO. I have changed the battery around 2 years.

I've had my 3GS since summer 2010. It's getting a little long in the tooth. Slow Internet... Battery is not that great... Some apps are above it's capabilities too... They are simply just barred from the phone in the App store.

Using a 3GS till the 5 comes out makes sense...but there's no way I'd pay $160 for it!

$160 for a 3gs is a decent price (if it's in good condition)
