trackpad crashes bluetooth

My trackpad works perfectly, except when:

When I get home from work, and my MacMini has been asleep all day, the trackpad has often lost its connection and the only way to get it back (and to even access the bluetooth icon at the top of the screen) is to restart the computer.

I've tried turning the pad off and on, nothing.

When I simply resort to the USB mouse, everything else runs fine, as long as I don't click on the BT icon on the top of the screen. When I do click it, the finder freezes and I have to restart - at which time everything goes back to normal.

Any suggestions?

Take the mini in for service.

Sounds like the Bluetooth board has issues.

Really? That kinda sucks. Anyway to test it at home first?

That's what you've been doing.

You could try another Bluetooth device, but it'll likely do the same thing.
