My point was not that the seller was the original owner but that no matter what this aint gonna happen because the seller is not responding. Sorry for you tilt that you can't get the answer you deserve. Hoping that you get many happy trouble free years from your MBP.
Isn't it too late even if you do get an answer? I would call Apple Care direct myself and make a plea, couldn't hurt. I have taken in MacBooks in the past for repair that have been in someone else's name that I owned, no issues.

That's a bizarre story. I have never, ever been asked for ID when going to an Apple store for service. I've reported a stolen phone to a store and asked what would happen if it were brought in; they said they might make a note but they would service it and give it back to the the thief.

This story makes no sense. Go to a store; get your laptop fixed.

The seller did call Apple when I was there buying the laptop. He did not know the name of the person under whose name the laptop was registered. Apple told him that he needs to find the person who originally bought the laptop and gave it to his father to gift it to the son. The son said that the father was away on vacation and that when he returns he would contact him and get this sorted out with Apple. That never happened and the son has been ignoring all my attempts to call him or text him or resolve the issue in any fashion.

Notice he still has not responded, even to this thread.

And in the meanwhile, I am unable to get any help from AppleCare for this laptop since I do not know the name this laptop is registered under, and so cannot prove to them that I am indeed the legitimate owner.

Cheers

Thanks folks. I do not have any issues with the laptop *fingers crossed*. It is just that whenever I call for some help and give the serial number, it does not match up with my name, so I end up googling the issue or asking about it here for help.

Maybe I shall follow your advice and take it into the store the next time, that way I do not have to answer questions.

Anyway, the reason I posted this here is more to warn prospective buyers to be careful when buying anything from this seller.

Cheers

I am asking $950 OBO.

Applecare until January 24th 2012, still time left to extend it!

Prefer to meet in person in London, but can ship anywhere for extra.
The Apple Canada Store website lists exactly this computer model, refurbished (tested and certified by Apple), for $ 899 plus taxes, shipping included, and that comes with a warranty good for a full 12 months from date of purchase.

First, the item is already sold, did you read the whole thread (I mean, to at least the 4th post)?

Second, what about No "Price Policing!" don't you understand?
