[MacBook Pro] Dropped a Bottle of Alexander Keith's (beer) on the keyboard :(

Hey Guys.

Rule number #1 never bring a mac when you're at a friend's house drinking.
-I failed on that rule fml!

I dropped a bit, I'd say uhmm like 3 teaspoons (I'm not sure how else to measure the amount I spilt on my MBP).
  • I did my best to dry the keyboard with a towel
  • I turned off the MBP & turned it back one
  • All works except certain keys on the MBP
  • So now I have it drying (battery is out)
  • Oh, and It's drying on the Balcony (cause my friend doesn't have a blow dryer)

Let me know guys.
Thanks.

Check the logic board. Saw an old MBP that had beer spilled on it, wasn't pretty.

Drying it out is a bad plan, as it concentrates all the wonderful materials in beer/soda/juice that will conduct electricity. You should disassemble and gently clean the affected areas with DISTILLED water, ASAP.

Be *absolutely* sure it is clean before you turn it back on.

Hey,

I just brought it in from the balcony and the keyboard isn't working, but mousepad & click is working... I guess I have to open it up when I get home, and I guess just dry it out and test it?

I just opened it up.. and everything is dry. I powered on the MBP and the keyboard still doesn't work.

What do you think I should do? Should I just leave it powered off for the night?

I think you should sober up before proceeding to step #2

Hey Cuba.

1. Well given that the Sens lost - that right there put my drinking mode down to 0

2. And, the fact that I spilt a bottle of beer on my keyboard that totally ruined any incentivized alcoholic persuasion from my friends

So, shall we get to step #2 please.. im going nuts right now, i gotta bring my mac to life.

Step two is Iwewe's advice. Dismantle. Distilled water. Clean. Dry.

If it reached the motherboard, that is - and tripped the water sensors - you're screwed for warranty in that case (if it was still under AppleCare).

Google search brings up a gazillion of these stories.... few seem to end well. Good luck...

Keyboards are non-repairable. If it's unresponsive, it's beyond repair. Don't bother removing keys and cleaning.
