Preview - PDF - Snow Leopard - Text box
Hey, so I'm adding text boxes using the annotate feature to my PDF lectures, but after saving and reopening the text is no longer visible...
If I double click where the text is supposed to be, I can re-edit and see the text. Anyone know what's up? |

At first I thought that might have had something to do with layers, but I don't think preview has layers. The only other thing i can think of is that maybe your text colour is matching your background.
I'll be interested to know if you found the culprit. |

Are you trying to create a PDF with form fields? Or are you trying to edit a pdf with notes you can embed (and view later) in the PDF?

Edit and view later. Mainly for taking notes on lecture slides in class.
I can use the annotate "note" feature, which basically brings up a side panel where the notes are, but having a textbox in the specific locations is much more handy. By the way, it also removes arrows, circles, and that sort of thing. |

Preview is really a pdf display app; it's not a full featured pdf editing/creating app. For that you need the Adobe apps (which cost money).
But, I seem to recall that if you play with the Save As: a bit, you can embed your changes. It might require changing from a vector-based text format (like pdf) to a graphics format; I don't remember exactly how I did it the one time. I may have used PhotoShop to add the text boxes. Maybe try File: Print: Save As; PDF to see if you can embed it that way via Preview. Your original won't be changed by creating the second PDF via the Print command. I can't test as I'm not on my own system right now.
