quicktime won't show video, but audio works fine

hello,

recently, i opened a video in quicktime and the video wouldn't show up. the audio from videos and plain audio works fine, but video won't play. this happens for both apple native formats as well as installed codecs. if i play the same videos in itunes it works fine, just quicktime isn't working. quicktime embedded in webpages also works btw. any help would be greatly appreciated

With quicktime we really need more info. What OS, what version of quicktime, which videos?

I am running QT 6.5.2. It has not opened the video portion of any Apple video, for the past 2 or 3 years, 'cause Apple wants me to update to a later system and I am very happy right where I am.

A crazy thought. If you are trying to peddle the latest and greatest are you shooting yourself in the foot, if someone who should be about ready to update, can't view your product blurb?

i'm running OS X 10.4.11 with quicktime 7.4 (92) and as stated above, this happens with *all* videos i've tested.

Not sure if this will help but: Go up to window, show A/V controls and try hitting the reset buttons. Your brightness might be cranked/off.

Have you fixed permissions? If all else fails you might want to try deleting the app and reinstalling it from the apple website.

I'm running QT 7.3 on an older dual 500 G4 (10.4.11) and I've been having a similar problem. The page loads either showing the controls in the middle of the movie area, then only plays audio and will not play video until I re-load the page, then it works OK... not great as the video flickers (streaming issue?) but at least I'm getting video.

There are issues with QT 7.4 and some people are going back to 7.3.1 as described here

QuickTime 7.4: Downgrade working for many users; remove components for playback issues - MacFixIt

I've tried removing plugins too - no luck yet...
