What happens when you plug network cable into already connected wireless Mac?

Let's say I'm plugging along on my Mac using a wireless connection. Then I decide to plug in a network cable. Nothing appears to happen in the OS. But, does the Mac detect the cable connection and start using it or do I have to do a reset of some sort?

You will need to switch your network connection in the Network Preferences from 'Airport' to Ethernet.

Both need to be configured initially.

in the SYSTEM PREFERENCES, under NETWORK, if you set your settings to automatic you can drag the different network connections around to the order you want them to default to. mine is set to default to ethernet, and then airport, and then if neither of those are available, built in modem.

as stated earlier you do have to configure them but once that is all set up the transitions are seemless. i daily go from a wired connection at work, to unwired at home without changing any settings.
