Macbook vs. Macbook Pro

Hey all

Besides the $950 price difference and the fact that the book pro comes with a 128 meg video card..any other differences?

I have a 12" powerbook right now, G4 1.0 GHz, and love the size..

I wish they made the macbook pro a little smaller..but they dont..

the MacBook comes in a 13" so i was looking at it, but is it that much different then the Pro?

I'm guessing the MacBook is the iBook replacement and the MacBook Pro is the Powerbook replacement.

Any suggestions?

I'm a student who does a little bit of DJ'ing and runs software like dreamweaver, flash and aperature...so something that would be suitable for that lifestyle.

Any comments and/or suggestions would help.
Thanks

I am in the same boat... with the same 12" 1gig 768ram... I am a photographer and love the size of my 12", but do understand Apple's need for the HD format, I am probably going to make my move this week as Henry's has a promotion on that if you put it on your Henry's card not payments for a year... looking into the memory issue .... probably going to purchase 2-1gig chips after market

The big difference to me seems to be the video card...well it is bigger than what I am using and I really am not going to do any video editing or gaming.. the removable hard drive is a very big feature... as mine is 40 gig...which was big when I purchased it but less than one year later I had to get an external for when I was in the field.. the ability to swap hard drives is amazing, especially if I ever decide to use ...argg sorry to say this her but Windows... there are a couple of photo software that is only available in win.... would not connect to the internet when running it as well probably do any upgrades in osx mode... if possible but that is another thread..

hey Barry.
You mean that on the Pro you can swap HDD's right away? That's INSANE!
Mine also came with a 40 GB and and I filled it up right away.
I just recently bought a 250GB external to replace my 160, and I also have a 40 GB slim..(got that when my dad's IBM died and I just took the HDD out)...

But the RAM issue is a big thing as I do a little bit of DJ'ing and would require a lot of Ram..

So.. in conclusion..

Pro has a removable HDD option on top of their better video card?

What am I missing?

I think that it's the MacBook that has the easy to remove Hard Drive, not the Pro, which is very similar to the powerbook to replace (it's difficult)

Just as a note, the video card ram has nothin gto do with video editing as such. Rendering of video is all basic ram and has nothing to do with a video card. Now some motion graphics on the fly will look better and less chunky with a faster video card but it is not as important as some would make it seem.

Now if you are playing video games... the extra oomf of a good video card is appreciated.

I guarantee that the Macbook.. stock, will be much much faster than your 1ghz PB, even though your PB has more ram. If you can do your DJing with the 1ghz PB, than the Macbook should handle it with ease.

Andrew: you got a point..
It runs pretty smooth on my 1ghz powerbook right anow.
And I also have a 250 gb (recently upgraded from 160) gb external hdd..so that's not so bad.
I carry the external depending on gigs..try not to load my PB up with wedding and birthday tunes...lol..

So looks like i'm leaning towards the macbook instead of the pro.

so aside from the swapping capability..and the processor speed.

The pro really just has dedicated video ram ?? that it?

Make sure you upgrade the RAM to at least 1GB. I've been using the stock configurated MacBook over the weekend, and it really isn't smooth. Not even compared to my eMac 1.25GHz that I had. The lack of RAM really sucks a lot.
