External Firewire+USB HD, only USB

I added am external HD to my setup the other day and every thing was fine and dandy. Today, I took it out, then put it back, but now, it will only appear as an external USB HD. It won't connect firewire, which is horrible, because I SuperDupered it and deleted my whole mac mini hard drive. I now installed an OS, but am missing all my files. How can I make my external work again?

BTW, it is a Western Digital drive with a COMP USA enclosure.

Is there some way to boot, via USB 2.0, rather than Firewire?

Try using Migration Assistant (located in Applications/Utilities folder) and import everything back to your mini. However, I am not sure it works with USB 2but worth a shot.

It opens, in the dock for half a second, than disapears.

Boot from your install CD/DVD and use Disk Utility to clone the USB drive back to the internal.

Seems like a great idea, I will do this, but how will I get the FireWire drive to work?

I didn't find a way to do this? Can you walk me through this? I run disk utility, and from there what?

I haven't tested it myself, but it is apparently possible to boot a PPC Mac from a USB hard drive, though it isn't supported:

If you get it to work, please let us know, as it would appear from the hint that nobody has tried it on a "mini" yet.
