.avi for Quicktime
I've been having troubles playing .avi files and I'm not sure why. Whenever Quicktime tries to open them it gives a message saying some components are missing and may be available at the site. But I can't fix it. No programs will play .avi files on my computer, Windows Media Player won't, Movie Time won't, and quick time. Is there a way to fix this?
Thanks

Also download VLC which is way better than Quicktime for viewing .AVI files

Not to echoe what has already been said, but VLC is what I use. Also, DivX finally released DivX 6 for Mac and it is compatible with Tiger and QT 7.

Also use the Xvid and AC3 codes from www.insaneness.com

Divx6 codec is free also. You get a trial period for the pro version, but you are using just for playback, you don't need the pro stuff you just need the codec, which again is free.

Also don't forget that .avi is just a wrapper ... it could be any number of codecs that are actually being used. VLC is the swiss army knife of video, no machine should be without it IMHO
![]() I just hope it doesn't end up having to go away ( see http://www.videolan.org/eucd.html for details )
