Burning dvds

Just wondering how you go about burning dvds? I've only tried burning some a few times. I'm not pirating movies, I'm ripping dvds that we've made using DVD camcorders and trying to make backup copies. I'm using Mactheripper to rip the dvds, then Dvd2oneX to compress, and Roxio Toast 6 titanium to burn.

I have the first revision of the iMac G5 with the single layer burner. I can't seem to get it to work. It takes a long time to burn then I get nothing showing when I put it in my DVD R readable dvd player.

Could somebody give me the step by step?

if they are homemade dvd's, then just use toast and hit copy. There is no security to get rid of, so all you have to do is copy the dvd with disk utility or toast.

Read the burning dvd tutorial:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/forum_view.cfm/56

And use Mac the Ripper the copy them:

http://www.ripdifferent.com/

and if they are over 4.35 gigs then compress them with DVD2oneX or Toasts Popcorn software.

imovie and idvd don't work for you?? just wondering.

I burned a collection of movies from my digital camera to DVD by using those programs. I'm not sure if its the same thing your trying to do.

My DVD plays fine on my dvd player.

In my experience, the best tool for this is Roxio Popcorn. Apparently they have rolled the functionality of Popcorn into Toast 7, so that's an alternative.

Popcorn or Toast 7 will burn your DVD, compressing if necessary. MacTheRipper is only necessary if you're exercising your fair-use right to make backup copies of commercial DVDs that you own - in that case you have to disable the various copy protection things and rip a de-boned copy of the DVD contents to your hard drive - THEN use Popcorn to compress/burn it.

1. Mac The Ripper
2. Popcorn (or Toast 7)
3. use DVD-R (don't use DVD+R)
4. make sure you RTFM

If it's a homemade DVD using camcorder streams you can only put 4GB on a disc. There should be no need to compress further.

I put in my homeade disc and use Disc Utlity to make an image. Use the image to create a new disc. It's always worked for me and it's free.

When you burn it did you do so as a dvd-rom file? YOu will see a filefold with the name of the movie and inside you will see a video_TS file and Audio_TS the audio one will be zero Kb so you can wipe it off, and the Video_TS will be 4.3gigs or so. Open that and it should be full of VOB files and such. Erase any files labeld DS.store any where.

So in the end you will be burning a folder named after the movie, with a Video_TS file in it.

It is that easy.

If you have further questions email or PM me.
