mail disappeared from inbox Apple Mail

Hello,

I opened my Mail app this morning and where there used to be over 6000 emails, there are now 154. I have set up a bunch of mailboxes and they are fine with the exception of my main mailbox. Almost 6000 messages have disappeared.

Has anyone had this problem before and/or know of a solution??

is your mail account pop3 or imap?

It is POP3.
