Questions about Mac Mini and iMac

Hi,

I'm a Linux user but recently discovered OS X and I love it! I'm planning on getting a Mac soon, but there are many things I'm not sure about. I was wondering about the following:

1) How good is the Mac Mini for playing games? i.e. Does it have enough power to play games reasonably well? (assuming the memory is upgraded to 512megabytes)

2) Is there an internal double layer DVD writer available for the Mac Mini?

3) Does the Mac Mini's video card support the resolution 1280x1024?

4) Does the Mac Mini and/or iMac come with any sort of sound card?

5) Can the video card or internal CD/DVD be upgraded in the iMac?

6) How much faster is the G5 over the G4?

I don't have a clue what to look for in a Mac. I'm basically looking for a general purpose home computer. e.g. internet, burning DVD's, playing games, etc. Is a Mac Mini or iMac more suited for this?

Thanks!
George

without any personal experience I'llt ry to answer some of the questions...

1) from what I've heard, yes its decent, unless you've got some tough backround tasks running
2) ...no comment, but if your asking about a superdrive then yes (in the top model at least)
3) of course
4) of course
5) upgraded to what? its standard cd-rw/dvd
6) depends on proccessors, of course the front-side bus is faster (minimum 600MHz max 1.25 GHz [thats dual btw]) but unless your doing serios video editing or something that actually needs the computing power of a G5 save some cash and get a G4 plenty of people use them even now for tons of stuff that you would think you'd need a G5 for...

hope that could help

ciao

1) The 32MB of Video RAM is too low for major gaming -- MystIV, for instance, will work only at a low resolution and with the moving effects turned off...

2) The DVD option is not dual layer.....

5) Video card: No -- Optical drive: yes.

Sounds like iMac for you.... or PowerMac
