We are using stuffit deluxe, and every time I double click to expand a file it opens stuffit deluxe and does not automatically unstuff it, when we had the free trial it just expanded on its own. I have been going through the preferences and cannot seem to find this. Anyone have any ideas?

Select a compressed file, do a "Get Info" and choose the preferred application to expand, ie; Expander within the Stuffit application folder. Apply change to all similar file types from within the Get Info window.

If, for some reason, you like Stuffit's default behavior for some files but not others, an alternative is to Control-click (Right-click on a multibutton mouse) on the file to bring up a menu, which will include Stuffit if it's installed.

Navigate to:
Stuffit: Unstuff

... and it simply decompresses the file without all the windows and other crapola that you get with a double-click.

If you've changed the default application via "Get Info" as suggested you might have to change it back for this to work.

Take your pick. Even if you prefer Mississauga's method, this is still an easy way to get quick access to the rest of Stuffit's tricks on any file.
