Hello,
How is this done on a Mac? Do I need to download a program to unzip a file?

yes,its a free program, go to www.aladdinsys.com and download the stuffit deluxe download. You will be able to unstuff and stuff files with that for free.

Stuffit Expander (that wonderings is talking about) should be included with your Mac, as it is free. And as of Panther, Panther has built in zipping and unzipping functions straight in the Finder.
(If you knew how, you could do it from the Command Line with any version of X).
Stuffit Expander though is the best program for uncompressing any file (.sit, .zip, .uu, etc.)

Although it often happens automatically (either on download or by simply double-clicking the file) you can also control-click the file name and see the options you have for uncompressing the file.
Stuffit Expander is free, has always been free, and is available for Windows as well (for at least a decade). As far as I know, it's been installed on every Mac that ever left the factory since the 90's began.
It always amazes me that Windows users insist on using a paid (shareware with expiry) program to unzip files.

Thank you everyone for the responses
I do have Stuffit with Panther and I have used it with .sit files, but I never thought it also included .zip files. Pretty cool!
Thanks again everyone!
