Angry Lion Finder stupidity (feature change from SL)

Can anyone confirm that this is the "new normal", so I can go off on a proper rant (or do troubleshooting)?

In Snow Leopard, in a Finder window in List view, I could click on one item in the list, Command-Click to randomly select other items, and ALSO Command-click to the left of the item icon and drag to select a block of items.

In Lion, this doesn't work for me. When I click and drag to select, it instead drags all of the items I've selected.

...or am I imagining that this is how it worked in SL?

This works fine for me in Lion mostly, BUT, every once in a while I have the same issue and a restart fixes it every time.

Good grief - you're right, Mark. I just tried it in SL - worked fine. Moved to the MBP with Lion...no go. Tried all sorts of variations to see if they'd changed it, and can't find anything. Also, I cannot find any reference to this change in behaviour online.

On the other hand - I've just discovered my drive on the MBP is failing (it's only 6 months old!) and I'm leaving in 3 days for a 10 day trip (ARGGGGHHHH) so don't go by what I say! I've got BAD THINGS happening (System prefs keeps crashing, which is what prompted me to do the DU dance and discover the failing S.M.A.R.T. status)

Oh woe is me...I don't have time for this *&^%$ right now!!!!
