Lion launch oddity

I'm new to Lion. I'm experiencing inconsistencies with how Lion restores apps.

In Snow Leopard I used Spaces, one to display Mail, another iCal, another Safari. I've set up Lion to do much the same thing. When I shut down the Mac each of these apps have their windows where I want them. In the morning, when I boot up, sometimes they restore as expected, but other times all the windows are in a mass. And sometimes Safari opens just one tab rather than the set that was there the night before. There doesn't appear to be any pattern to this oddity.

Yes, I have set up Accounts to launch Safari, Mail and iCal on launch, the same as was the case in Snow Leopard.

Any clues as to what is going on here? Much appreciated.

Solved. Located how to anchor an app to a particular "desktop" in Lion. With the app already located on the desired desktop, click on the app in the dock and hold until a popup appears. Go to Options, then to "This Desktop." Does the trick.
