Wireless printing with Airport Extreme Base Station

I've been under the impression that my printer (Canon 9000 Pro) can be used as our network printer when connected to our Airport Extreme Base Station. I just printed wirelessly with my MBP, but, when trying with the iPad, I am told, when selecting printer, that "no AirPrint printers are found." Why would it work fine with my MBP but not my iPad? Am I missing something? Is there a workaround for this? Both are on the same network connected to the printer.

AirPorts do not support AirPrint.

You need a printer that natively supports AirPrint, or setup printer sharing on your compatible Mac.

That's it. I suppose because only my Mac has the drivers for the printer. Printopia looks like it would fill my need for a network printer for several iPad in the house.

HOWEVER: occassionally I have in the past provided links to instructions or illustrations. I will not do so in future, in fact I will not be offering helpful advice for free just to have my words pirated until the sleazy ad linking desists. I will, however, answer PMs.
