I have a web site that is up and running, created several years ago on an early version of iWeb. It does not appear in MY current version (3.0.4) of iWeb on my computer. How can I open it in iWeb??? There is no "Open" choice in the iWeb File menu.....

Once exported or published, iWeb cannot open the generated files.

iWeb can *only* open "Domain" files, the native format (the *only* format) of iWeb files.

If you don't have the Domain file for that website, you can't use iWeb to edit the published site.

....may not have made the migration to Lion? Still got your previous system backup hanging around somewhere?

I'll look for it on Time Machine, but even if I found it, where would I restore it to?

As an aside, I made a change on one of my iWeb files and saved it, (not publish) then immediately did a search for anything modified today. Nothing showed up that was iWed related. Only the empty folder where the generated files will reside.

The user library file is hidden again (as of 10.7.3 update) so you will have to access it via the Go menu.

On my machine, (username)/Library/Application Support/iWeb exists and the Domain file is there as normal.

Hello, not meaning to hijack the post, but I have an iweb question which some of this thread attaches. I have a web site which uses iweb. However Apple has abandoned iweb so ( as it is included in my iLife and work packages ) updating will probably eliminate that software from my system...so how does one take advantage of the upgrades to iLife and work and keep iweb.

I am wondering if the OP is also restricted as well?

Two items of note...

Rps: the existing iWeb on your hard drive will not be (cannot be) deleted by Apple during one of its updates, so no worries. You can continue to use iWeb to author websites and upload via FTP, no problem. However -given that the web keeps evolving and iWeb's output will not, we need to explore options for moving to another app, such as the aforementioned RapidWeaver, or Sandvox, etc.

For those of us who still need to run iWeb under Lion, and if you have multiple domain sites, iWeb now behaves a little differently (no matter which domain file you double-click on to open, iWeb stubbornly refuses to open anything other than the last file it worked on).

This application is an iWeb launcher, that allows you to pick the domain file on launch (Multiple Domain iWeb)

You can also go into the /Preferences/ folder inside the (now-hidden) Library folder, find the "com.apple.iWeb.plist" file, and do a two-step process:

(i) if you have XCode installed, double-click on the file and it will open in XCode. You need to change the "iWebDefaultsDocumentPath" to "Boolean", check "NO" and save. Then,
(ii) do a Get Info, and lock it - thus preventing iWeb from writing its preferred Domain file path, and iWeb will always ask you which domain file you want to use on startup.

Who knows what will happen with updates to Lion... this workaround may suddenly stop working. But for now, it does the trick.
