Can I tell if my .mac/.me email account has been hacked?
I am having an arguement with Skype. My skype account was hacked, a managers account was set up and linked to my skype account and in the span of 1 hour I was charged a total of 200EUR in credits (fortunately paid by paypal so we are in a dispute and I will likely get it back).
Skype BTW feels that if your account is fraudulently used by a third party (ie hacked) that it is your problem - your email was accessed, you have a trojan/etc on your "pc" or your skype password was too easy and therefore "guessable".
I have the firewall on, have sophos running, have done a complete scan of my computer (18 hours of scan and 0 threats), password protected home wireless network, I don't download anything remotely suspicious, don't use twitter, facebook or any other type of social networking. So it would seem that my computer being hacked is not the issue (Unless I've missed something!).
I am down to 2 possibilities - somehow my .mac email account was compromised, or they managed to "guess" my skype password (if skype thinks my password is too easy, they should make those suggestions while you are setting up your account, not AFTER your account has been hacked!). And I haven't used my skype account for months, it isn't running on my computer, my profile isn't shared with anybody (in fact, there's nothing in it & I don't need people I don't know asking to be my Russian girlfriend!).
Any ideas on how I could check my .mac mail account to see if there has been any access other than my own?
Looking for as much information as I can in this dispute with Skype (200 EUR is nothing to sneeze at) Thanks all.
