I tried to install Apple DVD Player 2.7 on my factory-orginal Beige G3 and it said "The DVD player cannot be installed on this machine." Wtf? No, I have not installed a DVD-ROM drive, but I ordered one today. Does this need to be installed first? 366 MHz G3, ATI RAGE 128 16 MB running Mac OS 9.2.2 on first partition, Mac OS X 10.2.6 on second. I attempted to install the player from OS X onto the OS 9.2.2 partition and it failed. Do I need to boot into OS 9.2.2 physically and install from there? Once installed, I want to apply the hack/patch that allows DVD viewing on older Macs.

I'm still using V1.3 on my B&W 350. You may need to have the drive installed first. Do you have the DVD decoder card on your video card? Also remember that there is a conflict with QT v6 and dvd player on older macs.
Thanks for all the help, I successfully installed DVD v2.7 without a hitch on OS 9 w/hack. Now what should I expect for performance once my DVD drive arrives? Hopefully smooth under OS 9 -- OS X, I don't care. 544 MB of built-in RAM, 366 MHz G3, VM off.
