2011 - 15" MBP with hi-res -> blurry text in motion

I have a 15" MBP (2011 i7, with the hi-res screen). When I scroll text, the text becomes quite blurry. Blurry enough that I started watching other monitors/computers when using them, and I they are much better.

As I type this on my work computer (

) I can scroll the page while continuing to focus on a single word. Not easy, but I can. If I try to do the same on my MPB, my eyes want to bug out.

Is there a setting I could have messed up? Does anyone else notice this?

grab gfxcardstatus and try the same thing on both GPUs individually

interesting utility. But it appears that the card makes not difference. Must just be the screen.

I am comparing it to non-macs, I am wondering if the fact that text is OSX scrolls so smoothly is the problem, while in Windows, it jerks down 3 lines at a time, you don't actually see the blurring.

can you connect to an external screen and see if it persists? maybe take a video of the issue on your screen and post it on youtube or something?

fwiw when i scroll up and down quickly my text goes a little blurry too...

Any chance that changing your Appearance system pref settings for font smoothing and smooth scrolling would make an improvement???

I'll look at this when I get home. I don't recall seeing that setting before, but it sounds like it may be a candidate. Yes, I do use an external, haven't hooked it up in a bit, but I will this week, and see what that is like.
