Hi all ! I have a 400MHz Lombard with the original 6GB drive. I was wondering whether anyone knows what the seek time and rotational speed of the drive is ? I'm considering an upgrade to an IBM travelstar 20GN drive (20GB, 4200RPM, 2MB cache) and I want to know if, apart from the bigger size, the drive will increase overall performance of my book.
I have a Lombard as well, Except that I'll be updating to the 40.0GB Toshiba 5400RPM 9.5MM SuperSlim Notebook Drive with LARGE 16MB Data buffer!
Unfortunately I can't seem to see it in any of my searches of Canadian web sites, I've only found it at O.W.C. @
New with 3yr Toshiba Warranty. (TOSMK4019GAX) $139.99 u.s.d.
Just thought I'd tell you that there are other drives that might be better than the IBM drives.
I'm actually considering buying it off someone in the trading post (I'm short on cash), but I would totally go for a bigger/faster drive if I had the money. I just wanted to know if it would show a decent performance boost over the original drive to warrant the expense.
Yes...Cash...We all know the feeling when we are cash strapped.
I'm buying the best drive now only because I want to get the best possible upgrade now, I don't want to upgrade again later on down the road, I can do without other things this month.
