An hour ago iTunes asked to update on my MBPro so i said yes but as soon as I did, it crashed and i got an error report saying that the wrong iTunes was being used on my operating system
Just tried it again.
Same thing
Since i only followed what my update software told me to do i can assume the problems is on Apples end and t hey need to fix whatever is going on
i will likely have to uninstall mine and reinstall it now
for anyone else if you are asked to download iTunes in the next 24 hours, I might suggest holding off for a day or two

With iTunes updates I always clone before running the update. On at least 2 occasions I have not liked, or had issues with, the updated version and have reverted to the pre-updated system.
As a general rule my procedure is clone>test clone> then run updates.
Nine times out of ten the cloning turns out to be an academic exercise. But I have reverted enough times to realize that time is never wasted.

Well I finally just deleted the program, although I didnt bother to trash any library files or whatnot, just the one file in the applications folder, then downloaded the update from Apple ad reinstalled it.
Now I haven't had time to fully play with it but I was unable to find a delete button on it when I wanted to delete songs in my library so that was new and so far leaving me unable to do so.
I will look again tomorrow.
I haven't ever had an update problem until now but yes for anyone that does use iTunes I would suggest waiting a few days.
Sure, some of you didn't have any problems and that's wonderful but after my problem and that link to the errors talked about in a forum being the same message i was getting, I would certainly hold off for a few days.
Thanks to THE DOUG for that link.....good to confirm I wasn't the only one with the problem
SORRY, UNRELATED TO MACS BUT WHILE I AM HERE AND THINK OF IT:
BTW, for anyone interested that uses FACEBOOK i can report that THIS does work, in taking ones facebook profile back to the original one before the awful updates this week. I tried it myself at 10am this morning and i still have the original profile. So far, so good!!!

"delete button"? To delete items from your iTunes library:
- click on or move arrows to select the item
- choose EDIT-->DELETE or just hit COMMAND-DELETE on your keyboard.
