12" PB - New HD not recognized

I replaced the original HD in my 12 inch Powerbook with a Western Digital HD. When I go into disk utility to format the drive, it is not there.

Does anyone have any suggestions or have had the same issue?

Thanks

Could you clarify a few points? You installed a new drive and there's no OS on it, right? Are you trying to format it from Disk Utility on your Mac install disks?

Sorry,it is a brand new drive that I am trying to format I'm using the original restore discs, so I believe it is 10.4 and I am using the disc utilities off that restore disc.

The 12" PB's were infamous (slightly) for broken HDD flex cables. Just a possibility.

I did read about the ribbons breaking or not being pushed in far enough. I was not sure if there might be a hardware clash for some reason with the HD and the laptop.
