I'm having these problem with Adobe Illustrator 10 (AI10). When AI10 is not running:

1. there are these temp files (ie. AI TEMP 000089310) which, I'm assuming, should have been deleted by AI10. I can not drag them to the trash because it says they're in use, but AI10 is not running.

2. I can not overwrite .EPS files. It says the file is in use or currenlty open. But it clearly isn't, I've made sure that no currently open apps are using the .EPS files. AI10 is off and Quark is off.

For both problems, I've restarted my machine and tried to delete them manually even before launching AI10 to make sure the 'association link' is not there. They still can not be deleted and I get the same error messages--- this is from just restarting and NOT launching AI10 and NOT opening the files.

I've tried to open the files in AI10 and then close them, and then tried to delete them. To try and close any 'loose file links' but still I get the same error messages, and the files can not be deleted.

I've tried updating to the AI 10.0.3 version and that has no effect on the temp files OR overwriting the .EPS files.

Anyone heard of these problems? Anyone have any solutions?

Griller,
I just thought i would give you my opinion on ILL.10. I am in the graphics industry and we get illustrator files daily. We have nothing but problems with these files. We allways tell our customers to use illustrator 8 if posible. When we do get illustrator 8 or 9 files, we re-save them in 8.
I realize this has nothing to do with your problem, I could not resist letting others know what a pain illustrator is!!!
Thanks for listening.

Hey, no no, thanks for your opinion.... it is similar to mine which is Illustrator 10 is pretty, and it sounds good, and looks to have potential but it seems flakey.

I was on ILL.8 before AND in OS 9.x, and all was good.

Hi there,
I have been using 10 since it came out and there are many little glitches with it. The temp file you are seeing is actually (or supposed to be) a file that is currently saving - in your case it seems that it is sticking around longer than it should for some reason - double check your settings for your scratch disk to ensure it is your boot drive or faster - older iPods are not suitable scratch disks.

If you have an EPSON printer and a ZIP drive, you will encounter lots of weird things with AI 10. The solution is to disable your zip by turing off your extension or insert a zip disk into the bay.... sounds dumb but this solved a lot of the problems I was having with AI 10 initially.

Hope this helps.... if not, go back to 8 or 9 they work great!
K.

Logo on to Adobe.com and register in the user forums, there are secions specific to each program and tons of helpful {and some not so helpful} advice.

Illy 10 is a topic of great debate, some pro, many cons.

Personally I have stuck with 9 but save as 8...
