I need help on formating a Pc HD on my PB 5300. Il works on OS 7.6.1. I went to the Fujitsu web site that sent me to another site...and I got lost. A friend told me that there is a shareware available that does the job. Any idea.

Thanks in advance for the info.

Try using Drive Setup. This is an Apple program that comes on all the Boot CD's and Boot floppies up to, and including, OS 9.1.
It will often work with non-Apple drives so it is always worth a try.
Put the new drive in your Powerbook. Start the Powerbook with the System Boot CD or Boot floppy. Find the Drive Setup program on your Boot drive (may be in the utilities folder). When Drive Setup launches you should see a window with a list of your drives. Select the new hard drive and then hit the initialize button. If the drive is unsupported you won't be able to initialize it. In that case you will need to find some third party software such as FWB hard disk toolkit. These won't be free.
Good Luck.

Drive Setup only works for third party drives after Mac OS 8.1 where they offically took support for third party drives when they introduced HFS+ formatting.

Some shareware apps that you may want to look for would be one called "SpotOn" Bear in mind that because of the age of these apps, and the size of the drives in the earlier Mac OS, many of these programs will not allow partitions larger than that of 2 or 4GB's in size....

Here is a link to a newer version of Drive Setup from Apple.
Apple Drive Setup

The latest version for download at Apple is 1.7.3 This will work for all systems from OS 7.5 to 8.6
