strange display

I think this happened once before about a year ago. It happened again just tonight. I returned home to find my MacBook's display full of multiple, colorful horizontal lines moving radically from top to bottom. I could see my partial name on the bottom left of the screen. I think this may have something to do with the screensaver, but maybe I'm wrong. I had to do a hard shut down with the power button to get it to come back. Anyone else run into this kind of behavior with their display?

Yes. A similar problem occurred on my spouse's PB17. Applecare replaced the screen.

I highly doubt I could reproduce the problem. How does Apple deal with situations like this? I have several months remaining on AppleCare.

We thought similar. In our case, the problem rather quickly became reliably reproducible and was fixed in the last month of 3yr Applecare.....
