any way to reload lost emails?

I was trying to make an mbox file of my old work emails with a pc by loading my emails in Outlook Express then import in Thunderbird then to my mac. Something happened to our servers months ago and lost all of my old emails from years ago and once it got fixed, I never got my old emails back.

I think because I used Outlook Express, when I created the account, all of my existing emails in Mail dissappeared.

Is there any way I can retrieve them in Mail.

I tried deleting and re-creating the account and it didn't work.

Also, why did this happen?

Thanks

Do you have backups of your Mac before the problem? I take it not since you are asking here.

Your servers should have nightly back ups. Ask your ISP - they should be able to restore to a point just before the problem occurred. If they can't/won't consider a new provider.

HOWEVER: occassionally I have in the past provided links to instructions or illustrations. I will not do so in future, in fact I will not be offering helpful advice for free just to have my words pirated until the sleazy ad linking desists. I will, however, answer PMs.

Send a message via AIM to chas_m
It sounds like your email account is tied to the server and when the server was contacted, it told your email client to wipe the emails to be in sync with the server.

Another sad victim of Microsoft.
