Hello all. I've recently moved to an emac from a slot loading imac and am having some trouble.

How do I open the tray? (Assuming that i would like to insert a cd into the tray and do not have a keyboard with the "eject" key.)

I try to go file-> eject but the option is unavailable unless a cd is in the tray.

If you have a recent Apple keyboard, there should be an eject key in the top right corner. If you are using the old iMac G3 keyboard, use the F12 key.

Obviously the previous owner kept the eMac KB which does indeed have an eject key in the upper right corner. Too bad as these were about the best KBs Apple has made since the catastrophe that shipped with the original Bondai iMacs.

Hold down F12 for a few seconds - it will then open.

hehe might be old school.. but doesn't command-e eject the cd?

And if you don't have a keyboard at all, opening iTunes and choosing Eject Disk with the mouse will work.

No, it doesn't work when there is no CD in the drive. Nonetheless, the problem has been resolved. I'm using the special menu icon and the f-12 button. Thank you to everyone.
