old scanner acting up

just today-I have an ollld Epson 1200 scanner which I use for slides and photos (hey, it's
a family thing) and when I tried to scan in a large 7x5 photo, there was a 1 inch wide strip
that was lighter than the other part of the photo. I have cleaned the glass twice, but I tried it again-same result...
Is this thing hooped?

I remember reading that some Epson scanners were afflicted with issues with lamp brightness fluctuating - I'd suggest a Googling to see if you have one of the afflicted ones...
