I've moved a Tower Mac G4 from work to my home and now it won't boot. All I have is a power light that closes as soon as I unpress it. No HD noise, no fan. NADA.

Everything is plugged like it was at my workplace. I've read some posts about that problem. I am thinking the move could have created the problem. It's an old mac maybe the battery needs to be replaced and since it has been unplugged some days (maybe 3) it is now dead?

Any hints?

Those symptoms are too broad to make a diagnosis , it is probably a pram issue or a dead power supply or a bad cpu or motherboard , in that order.. So if you know about pram you must know the little button on the motherboard , press it for 1 second , release wait 20 seconds and try starting the mac. Yes it will start without a battery.

It was the PRAM. Got a new battery and everything is good again. Battery was dated February 2001.

If your G4 won't boot up, 9/10 its the battery that needs to be replaced.

Also invest in a quality surge protector, its the best investment one
can make to protect electronics from power surges, which can destroy
your G4.
