Apple iMac 24-inch, 2.8GHz

Can I connect the new apple 24" LED monitor to this imac??

I think my imac has a mini dvi connection and the new monitor has a mini display port.

Will this work??

No. You need a Mini DisplayPort in order to connect the new 24-inch LED display.

Not sure what you mean -- after using the same ports for a decade, Apple has moved to a new "standard" on these new displays. It's made quite clear on their site and the box that these monitors are not compatible with previous computers without an adapter.

As to why they did this, see here as a starting point. Seems logical enough to me ...

As for adapters, Apple already sells them: here's one for VGA, and here's one for DVI. $29 (US) each.

I've heard there are also adapters for miniDisplayPort to HDMI, but I haven't seen one myself yet.
