Imac g3

I found an imac g3 233 mhz at my local recycling place and took it home. The problem is it requires a password to get past the login screen. I burned a copy of os 9.2 but can't get it to read....I read there is a way to reset the passwords that way. I think I chucked my panther disks after I sold my mini and it definitely won't read my macbook install dvds. Is my only option to buy a retail os 8 or 9 disk? I would like to have this machine for old games and whatnot since intel macs don't have the classic environment.

Thanks in advance.

Not too costly

Hi:
There is a way to 'reset' the password using text commands. If however, you think this machine could be refreshed by a new install, which you should do anyway, then look on the ehMac boards for someone with a copy of 8.6 and up. They shouldn't be too expensive since almost no one is using anything lower than 9.2.2 anymore. If you've got a macbook, you should still be able to use the Classic environment with 10.4.11. It's 10.5 that won't read anything classic. Another place you can go to read up on resetting passwords is the Apple discussion board. There's an entire section there for OS 9 and G3s. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Just about any OSX install disk will let you change the account password. Boot from the disk, ignore the installer and browse the menus until you find the correct menu item.

Note with this computer you will need a working optical drive to do any system installs.
