does anyone know if ibook g4 keyboard fits in g3

I want to buy one from ebay but I don't know if it will work. I read contradictory reports. I have a G3 14" ibook and all the keyboards seem to be for G4.

Fit -- yes. Work, no I don't think it will. Different connectors as I recall.

But I could be wrong. See if you can get images of the UNDERSIDE of the G3 and G4 ibook keyboards.

I have a good working and clean 14" keyboard for the iBook G3 dual USB. Just contact me if interested. $20 plus shipping costs.

Go with GlassOnion, who (1) knows what he is talking about and (2) is a fair person to deal with.

Thanks HowEver for the good words,

what I can say about the ibooks keyboards is that the iBooks G3 dual USB (from 500MHz to 900MHz but not the clamshell) have the same keyboard connector than the iBook G4 but since the connector is not located at the same place on the motherboard the 12" G3 KB can't be used on the 12" G4 iBook but the 14" G3 KB will fit in the 12" G4. I did not test the Ibook G4 keyboard in the G3 iBook but it should fit cause his cable is longer. I currently have a iBook G4 800MHz with a 14" iBook G3 KB and it's working great.

yes, that is what I was saying. "different connector" was totally the wrong wording, but the point was correct: same size, different placements = will not work.

As for However, you might be better off ignoring HIS "assumptions and guesses." I worked for Apple as a demo rep during the early days of the G3 and G4 iBooks, and much more recently as a tech in an Apple repair shop. I have replaced literally HUNDREDS of those keyboards. I still have a few in storage, but they are not accessible now (they're in Florida).

I'm more than my share of familiar with them, but that was a long time ago now, and I didn't have the part to hand to do a visual compare.

However generally knows what he's talking about (particularly regarding iPhones and rate plans), but he's not a particularly good judge of the other posters here.

I guess we should appreciate that for a change you did not request that the computer be upgraded to more recent technology. Kudos for that.
