Bizarre keyboard shortcut problem..

I'm having a very strange issue with my F key shortcuts. This is the first I've noticed this, and I can't say how long it's been going on, but here goes:

My reduce and increase brightness shortcuts do nothing and I get the deep beeping noise of error. My Spaces shortcut brings up the "find phrase" bar in Firefox. The dashboard shortcut also does nothing. F5 works fine and still reloads pages.

When in iTunes, F7, F8, and F9 don't skip or pause/play tracks like they're supposed to. 7 and 8 do nothing, while F9 brings up Spaces. I'm not sure what F10 is doing; it darkens the desktop around my window and highlights the window in the same way spaces does, only without shrinking back to view all windows. F11 hides all windows, and F12 brings up dashboard.

Sorry for the long post, but has anybody has this problem before? How do I go about fixing it?

Edit: I did repair permissions in disk utility (I've also restarted the computer) and came up with these error messages: "Warning: SUID file "System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare/afpLoad" has been modified and will not be repaired."

"Permissions differ on "private/var/log/secure.log", should be -rw------- , they are -rw-r----- ."

"Warning: SUID file "usr/bin/setregion" has been modified and will not be repaired."

My iTunes F keys do exactly what yours do.
I've never used them before so I don't know if they changed from a previous iTunes or OS.

What OS and Mac are you using?

Should have been more specific, sorry.

Early 08 black Macbook, running Leopard 10.5.6.

Really the only F keys that I use are the iTunes and volume keys, and I use them relatively often. I've used them since the software update without any issues, so I don't think that it's that.
