I'm in the process of upgrading my 15" macbook pro hard drive. I got the macbook pro back in 2006 and it's just now that I'm experiencing some hard drive problems which leads me to believe that my hard drive may be fried. I tried everything, but it just won't start up normally...the blue screen of death is always on, and sometimes I even get the file with the "?".
Instead of purchasing a new macbook, I was thinking of just replacing the hard drive. Does anyone know of any good hard drives out there that are good replacements for the 15" macbook pro? I've read a thread here saying that the macbook pro can support 500gb for a new internal hard drive. I've researched online and old posts on boards talk about Western Digital My Passport 320gb hard drives being the best, but I can't find this where I live in Vancouver.
I found a place in Burnaby that has this hard drive: Apple Drive Module for Mac Pro - 500GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s and the apple site reviews seem varied. The place I found it in also should be able to install it for me...but before I do just that I wanted an opinion on the hard drive itself.
i was going to get a new 7200 230gb seagate for my MBP. there's 2 models, the more expensive being their g-force model
anyone have any experience with these drives? just wondering if the anti shock technology is a good idea in the macbook (would there be some type of conflict with the mac's own anti shock tech)??
That drive you reference is a 3.5-inch drive, and won't fit your MBP. A "Mac Pro" is not a "MacBook Pro."
You're looking for any 2.5-inch SATA hard drive.
LOL...wow embarassing..
Ok so after doing more careful (i hope) research I think I found something that will work: Western Digital Scopio Blue 500GB 2.5" 5400RPM SATA 3Gb/s Notebook Hard Drive - OEM.
I Just put this 7200.3 Seagate HD in my 15 MBP. The bump in speed from 5400 rpm to 7200 rpm is noticeable. And you cant beat the price at $109.00 I ordered it from memory express online and it arrived in 3 days.
