restoring data after a clean install

Greetings folks, new guy here.. looks like a great forum !
I have had my 17" iMac, OSX10.5.5 for about 3 years now, working great.
I'm thinking it's about time to do a clean install. I have been using time machine for backups to an external USB drive.
My dilemma, currently it is set up with 2 user accounts, after I do a clean install I would like to just have 1. BUT, I have all of my wife's stuff (email, docs, photos, music, etc) as well as mine.
Is restoring this data as simple as hooking up my time machine drive after the clean install and dragging particular folders/files back in ?

Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I'm not sure why you want to do a clean reinstall, but I've done them in the past from the original install disks to clean up glitches I just can't debug. I've never tried to do it from a backup copy, simply because it wouldn't really be a clean install

You can remove your wife's account via System Preferences > Accounts, then do a disk reinstall. During the reinstallation from the disks, choose Archive and Install with Preserve Users and Network Settings. That way you'll get a clean install of the system, but with all your (but not your wife's) preferences and content intact. And it's a lot easier than finding every file/folder that you'll need to move over from the backup.
