dabout that firewire solution

First of all thanks. I got myself the developer program and a firewire and have been able to transfer files from my shaw pvr to my computer. Just a few notes for others who may wish to do the same.
Cable companies have the ability to encrypt programs such that they can only be recorded once. So if your pvr records it it can't be recorded again. Be sure the program window says "record freely" rather than "record Once" Hopefully someone will come up with a fix for this. It's so stupid considering the existence of dvd recording etc.

I find it quite a bonus that I can record directly from the pvr in real time as I watch. Be sure you enter the chanel # in the program's box which asks for "monitor chanel"

The program records in m2t and I know the best program to convert it to .avi-
apparently VLC can do it but it isn't user friendly. I found xilisoft and it works well

Oh and one more thing. When in operation the program and/or firewire inhibit fast forward on the pvr. It works but it is jumpy.
