Thumbs up Upgrading Macbook Ram??

Hi,

I have a new macbook 2.2ghz c2d with 1 gig ram (2x 512MB). I would like to upgrade the ram, is it ok to buy a 2gig ram and put it in one of the slots and leave the other at 512? (Totalling 2.5gigs) - or do I need to balance it (ie. 2x 1gigs - 1 gig in each slot)? I would eventually like to max it out at 4 gigs but that's not an option right now so I'm thinking of buying a 2gig, just don't want to run into any problems if they don't add up evenly, I'm new to this...

Thanks for your help!!

2.5GB of RAM will work fine; however, the MacBook makes use of interleaved RAM (equal pairs) for increased video performance.

The speed boost you get with Dual Channel memory access (matched pairs - either 2 x 512, 2 x 1 GB or 2 x 2 GB) is small, about 6% - 8% in real life speeds. It's worth keeping in mind, but I don't recommend going for LESS RAM just to maintain a matched pair. On average having more total RAM is more important than having matching RAM.
