Old iBook Logic Board Solution

I have an old iBook G3 900 MHz with a 14 inch screen sitting on a shelf. It was diagnosed with the video card/logic board problem that hit many of these models. I was thinking about trying to get it going and did a google search and found this company who offer a solution where they "re-solder the breaks". I know it's an old G3 but this thing is in pretty fine shape (used gently by my wife) and would be a great e-mail/web surfacing machine at the cottage. I'm more a mac user than a mac fixer and I was wondering if any of you had any thoughts on the process. Here's the link:

Thanks in advance,

Three words: Waste of money.

And there's no guarantee such a 'fix' will continue to work in the long-term. (That's probably my single biggest objection to said repair.)

I know you said you weren't a fixer, but if you were, and if you were brave and/or crazy enough, you could try this.

Supposedly-working logic boards show up on eBay regularly, but they typically cost more than sending the iBook our for reflowing.

Lars is right to question the longevity of the fix, either by sending it out or doing it yourself.

OWC is selling working iBook 800s for about twice the price of the board itself.

My sister (not the most reliable source of information) told me that a Mac reseller offered her $75 for her iBook 700 with the same problem for use as a movie prop. You or someone else could part it out. You could make like Denise Richards and knock it off a balcony.

Even with an essentially useless Mac, you still have options.

Thanks for the advice... will probably try to part it out and see what I can get.
